Asbestos Cancer and Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos is a set of six natural silicate minerals of commercial for the desired physical properties are exploited. They all have their common asbestiform habit, long, thin fibrous crystals. Inhaling asbestos fibers can cause serious diseases, including malignant lung cancer, mesothelioma (a rare cancer is strongly associated with previous exposure to amphibole asbestos) and asbestosis (a form of pneumoconiosis). Long exposure to high concentrations of asbestos fibers are more likely to cause health problems. The European Union has banned all use of asbestos and the extraction, production and processing of products containing asbestos.

Asbestos became increasingly popular among manufacturers and builders in the 19th Century's because the sound absorption power, the average drag and resistance to fire, heat, electricity and chemical damage. It is used in applications such as electrical insulation for the hot plate and wiring in the building insulation. When asbestos is used for resistance to fire or heat, which is often associated with fiber cement (resulting fiber cement) or a mixture of woven fabric or mat. Commercial asbestos mining towns began in eastern Quebec, Canada and the world's largest asbestos mine in Quebec is a city of asbestos.

"Asbestos" is the name for a group of minerals that occur naturally as bundles of fibers that can be separated into thin threads. These fibers are not affected by heat or chemicals and is not electrically conductive. For these reasons, asbestos has been used in many industries.

Asbestos Cancer
Four types of asbestos have been used commercially:

Chrysotile (or white asbestos)

Crocidolite (blue asbestos or)

Amosite (usually has brown fibers)

Anthophyllite (usually has gray fibers).

Chrysotile asbestos, with curly fibers, is in the serpentine family of minerals. Others (all the rod-like fibers) are known as amphiboles.

Asbestos fiber masses tend to break easily into tiny dust particles that can float in the air and stick to the clothes together. Fiber can be easily inhaled or swallowed and can cause serious health problems such as causing lung cancer.

Asbestos has been mined and used commercially in North America began in late 1800. Its use greatly increased during World War II, it has since been used in many industries. For example:

Asbestosis
The construction industry has used asbestos for strengthening cement and plastics industry and for insulation protection, fire and sound insulation.

Shipbuilding industry has used to protect boilers, steam pipes and hot water pipes.

The automotive industry uses in vehicle brake shoes and clutch pads.

More than 5,000 products contain or contain asbestos.

Asbestos Exposure
Government regulation and other actions, coupled with widespread public concern about the dangers of asbestos has led to a significant annual decline in U.S. use of asbestos. Domestic consumption of 719,000 tonnes to around the year 1973, but has about 9,000 tons in 2002 to decline. Asbestos is the most frequently in gaskets and in roofing and friction is used.
